142nd SVD Day Celebration

The Divine Word College of Laoag commemorates the 142nd founding anniversary of the Society of the Divine Word and the 71st year of the school’s education apostolate. Coinciding with the celebration of our Blessed Mother Mary’s Birthday, September 8, 2017 brought the Divinians together once again in a concelebrated thanksgiving Holy Mass for what the SVD and the DWCL were, are, and will be.

Rev. Fr. Leonardo Ruiz, an alumnus BSC Accountancy Batch 1988, the main celebrant and the Diocesan priests, Rev. Fr. Rock Bonoan, Frev. Fr. Richard Antonio, Rev. Fr. Anthony Dimagiba and Rev. Fr. Ruben Abaya, the SVD priests, Rev. Fr. Jose Tagupa, SVD, Rev. Fr. George De Castro, SVD, Rev. Fr. Nerio Joseph Artienda, SVD, and Rev. Fr. Denny D. Lucas, and a Redemptorist priest, Rev. Fr. Lhionell Namora made the Eucharistic Celebration on this day even more significant. In Fr. Ruiz’s homily he underscored the Jubilee theme saying “In the Divine Word College of Laoag, we make life brighter in the Light of the Word” is an acknowledgement of the privilege we have as members of the DWCL family simply because we are always guided by the Light of the Divine Word, the LOGOS, the Son of God made flesh, our Redeemer and Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ……”

To the very meaningful tune of ONE HEART MANY FACES by way of a Liturgical Dance , the Performing Arts GUILD, Special Privileged Students and other student volunteers of the Campus Ministry Office, to include; Mark John Paul Agraan, Edgar Bueno Jr., Jaymar Cayasa, Marbin Corpuz, Jared Byron M. Guzon, Carl Vicente, Eunice Agravante, Shatel Biwang, Kristan O. Camado, Queenie Claro, Elfe Derama, Jenny Leira Factor, Darlene Marco, Hazel Pasion, Ethel Remigio, Jennelyn Tungpalan and Liz under the direction of Dessa Doque, Frt. Dexane N. Jairus,SVD and Ms. Margarita Galat, interpreted St. Arnold’s founding of the Society of the Divine Word – from its early humble beginnings akin to a mustard seed, St. Arnold’s Mission grew and spread all over the world to no less than 75 nations today.

The Co-Missionaries of the SVD in the DWCL who were given honor and recognition for having served the school for some considerable years together with selected students had special participation in the mass.

The Lord’s Prayer resounded the gymnasium as all the stakeholders in attendance to grace the celebration; students, parents, industry partners, employees and guests hymned in unison.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAMA MARY!!!!!!! Roses flooded the Blessed Mother’s Statue in thanksgiving for the unconditional intercessions the Blessed Mother makes for all of us. Simple but meaningful prayer was said… “Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, now and forever, AMEN!

Prof. Janette R. Lazaro, the mass commentor, ably contributed to the active participation of the community and the observance of a Holy Rite in the Eucharistic Celebration.
