First time since 1946!
Marking a historic milestone since its founding in 1946, Divine Word College of Laoag, Inc. (DWCL) held its first-ever Conferment Rites today, October 8, honoring eight faculty members with academic ranks of Professor and Assistant Professor.
Conferred with the title of โProfessorโ were Dr. Gladys Jean Q. Basilio, Dr. Bibeth M. Corpuz, Dr. Libertine Gertrude R. Macaspac, Dr. Marlene T. Nicolas, Dr. Frelyn B. Ranay, and Dr. Egdonna A. Quinto.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ray Mark Paul C. Matias, and Mrs. Melody Luz M. Sapinoso, were conferred the academic rank of โAssistant Professorโ.
In her speech, Dr. Gladys Jean Q. Basilio, one of the conferees, emphasized that true success lies not in titles or recognition but in perseverance, humility, and the character shaped throughout oneโs journey.
โThis is not just a recognition of credentials or positions; rather, it is a recognition of the roads we traveled, the obstacles weโve overcome, and all the people who made our journey worthwhile,โ she shared
Rev. Fr. Edsel Demilio, SVD, PhD, also stressed the importance of professional excellence, saying, โBecoming the best in our respective field of specialization will benefit not only yourselves, but also the institution.โ
The Conferment Rites serves as a formal recognition of a teacherโs contributions and achievements in research, teaching, and service, with respect to the institution they belong to.
Concluding the event was the Employeesโ Day celebration, where students expressed their gratitude to the DWCL work force through a gift and token giving led by the Central Student Council and the different student organizations.
